Aldrich Potgieter (born 13 September 2004) is a rising South African professional golfer who made history early in his career. Potgieter gained international recognition when he won The Amateur Championship in 2022 at the age of 17, becoming the second youngest winner of the prestigious tournament. His rapid rise continued after turning professional in June 2023, following the U.S. Open, where he joined the Korn Ferry Tour. In January 2024, Potgieter set a new record by becoming the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history, claiming victory at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at just 19 years and 133 days old.
Born in Mossel Bay, South Africa, Potgieter began playing golf at a young age and honed his skills at the Louis Oosthuizen Junior Golf Academy. He later moved to Perth, Australia, where he attended Kingsway Christian College and participated in their Golf Program. His amateur career was filled with notable achievements, including victories at the South Australian Junior Masters (2020), Western Australian Amateur (2021), and both the Nomads South African Juniors International and Nomads SA Boys U19 Championship (2022).
Potgieter’s 2022 Amateur Championship victory solidified his place as one of golf’s brightest young talents. He continued to dominate the amateur scene, winning the African Amateur Stroke Play Championship and Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in 2023 before turning pro.
In 2024, Potgieter’s impressive performance on the Korn Ferry Tour earned him a place among the top 30 finishers, securing his US PGA Tour card for 2025, further cementing his status as a future star in professional golf.
