Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation Makes Waves at 51st Midmar Mile Swimming Race

Midmar Dam, South Africa – February 12, 2024 – The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation proudly joined the festivities at the 51st Midmar Mile swimming race, held on February 10th and 11th, 2024, at the stunning Midmar Dam. As an organization committed to promoting water safety and swimming education, our participation in this esteemed event was not only a privilege but also a reaffirmation of our dedication to aquatic sports and community engagement.

Amidst the splendor of the Midmar Dam, our team had the honor of swimming alongside distinguished athletes and passionate enthusiasts from around the globe. One of the highlights of our participation was the presence of our esteemed ambassador, Terence Parkin, whose remarkable journey from a teenage competitor to an Olympic swimming legend is deeply intertwined with the fabric of the Midmar Mile. Terence’s 33rd completion of this iconic race is a testament to his enduring commitment to excellence and serves as an inspiration to all.

Joining Terence was our newest ambassador, Mhlengi Gwala, an extraordinary Para triathlete hailing from South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province. Accompanied by his training partner, Sanele Shange, Mhlengi embarked on a grueling 120 km cycling journey from Durban to Midmar, symbolizing the resilience and determination that define our foundation’s ethos.

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation fielded a diverse team for the event, comprising Director Sean Wittstock, his son Raigen (age 10) and daughter Ava (age 7), youth ambassador Kaiden Keyser, and the indomitable Dr. Khamini Singh and her son Dhanav (Age 10). Dr. Singh’s impressive athletic achievements, including multiple Comrades Marathons and conquests of prestigious races like the New York, Berlin, and London marathons, exemplify the spirit of perseverance and triumph that resonates deeply with our foundation’s mission.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to the organizers of the Midmar Mile for orchestrating a flawless event that showcased the best of open-water swimming. Special thanks are due to Wayne Riddin for his exceptional efforts in ensuring our team’s experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

The Midmar Mile remains an unparalleled platform for fostering a love of swimming and promoting water safety awareness, values that align closely with the core objectives of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. We look forward to continuing our partnership with this iconic event and inspiring future generations to embrace the joys and benefits of aquatic sports.
