Water Safety

“My Foundation is about children who can become great adults, if we collectively show them the way forward with strong sport values and solidarity.”

Princess Charlene of Monaco

Our Water Safety programme aims to teach the youth the correct safety rules in and around water and raise awareness around drowning. As a patron of Lifesaving South Africa, Princess Charlene is passionate about educating and equipping people about water safety.

Drowning is the third leading cause of unintentional injury deaths across the world! It is a silent killer – and very deadly for young children in particular. Together we can save lives – one person, one family, one community at a time.

GIVE / GET INVOLVED

Children are highly exposed to drowning hazards. They are also the best vehicle for relaying vital knowledge to their parents, family, and community.

Our Water Safety partners

Together with Lifesaving South Africa, the Foundation has a considerable reach in South Africa. We make use of their qualified lifeguards and their Watersmart module, which is brought into the school curriculum in South African schools as a classroom-based educational water safety programme aimed at Grade 4 pupils.

The collaboration between the Foundation and Lifesaving South Africa is a natural one. We use preventive measures, such as our numerous educational and training programmes and lifesaving competitions, so that people can be at less risk of drowning.
