The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa is proud to announce that the Water Bike Challenge, a renowned event that has garnered great success in Monaco, is making its debut in South Africa! The event will take place at the magical Sun City on Saturday, 16th September 2023.

The Water Bike Challenge promises to be an unforgettable day filled with thrilling competition, celebrity appearances, and fundraising efforts in support of the Foundation’s remarkable projects.

The Foundation aims to raise funds for our water safety and drowning prevention programmes. Under the leadership of HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco, the Foundation is dedicated to transforming lives through swimming and water safety education. 

We are thrilled to bring the Water Bike Challenge to South Africa and create an exciting platform for raising awareness about water safety and showcase our commitment to saving lives and instilling a water safety culture in our communities.

We are also deeply honoured that His and Her Serene Highnesses, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, will attend, supporting the Foundation’s cause.

Background

The Water Bike Challenge is an official fundraising event for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

To date events have been staged in the Riviera racing 21 km between Nice and in Monaco.

2022 : Port of Monaco

The Water Bike Challenge regularly attracts VIPs and sporting stars. Some of these participants included Formula 1 stars David Coulthard & Felipe Massa as well as South African sporting greats, John Smit & Percy Montgomery.

While the event benefits the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa, the primary recipient of its proceeds is Lifesaving South Africa.

Serving as the authoritative body for lifeguarding and the promotion of Lifesaving Sport in South Africa, Lifesaving South Africa has embarked on mission to prevent drowning incidents and nurture a thriving community of lifesaving athletes.

With a membership exceeding 8,000 individuals, including 4,000 devoted volunteers who carry out lifeguard duties, Lifesaving South Africa operates across 65 coastal (surf) clubs and 22 inland (pool) clubs nationally.

Lifesaving South Africa believes in the core values of volunteerism, humanitarian principles, tolerance and acceptance for all, equity through diversity, evidence-based learning, friendship and camaraderie.
